The Matteson Area Public Library has Kindle e-readers pre-loaded with e-books for the convenience of our patrons. The Juvenile Kindles contain titles appropriate for children in grades 3-6. The Teen Kindles contain titles appropriate for grades 7-12. All Kindles must be checked out at the Front Desk on with an adult present, and a user agreement must be signed. They may be checked out for 2 weeks with no renewal. The Kindles may be placed on hold by Matteson Area Library Card holders and are not available for interlibrary loan.
Three IPads preloaded with interactive story books and educational apps of interest to children are available for check out at the Youth Services Desk. They are for in library use only. IPads must be checked out on an adult library card and a user agreement must be signed. Users must present both a picture id and a valid library card at the time of checkout.
The Youth Services Department of the Matteson Area Public Library offers 11 personal computers with unfiltered access to the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite. They are attached to a printing station for convenience with a charge of 15 cents per black and white copy and 35 cents per color copy. The computers are reserved for children aged 15 and younger. All users under 18 must have signed parental permission to use the Internet.
Users are required to show their library card at the Youth Services Desk prior to logging onto a computer. Users under the age of 18 without a library card must have a parent or legal guardian sign a “Temporary Internet Use Registration Form for non-resident minors”. They will be given a visitor pass that is valid only for the day issued.
Patrons under 18 without Internet permission may not sit with or watch another minor patron who has permission. Users 15 and under are restricted to the Youth Services Computers.
Computers are available to walk-in users on a first come, first serve basis. Advance reservations are not taken. Session time for users with library cards is one hour. A user may log in for a second one hour session if computer time is available. Maximum time for a visitor pass is limited to 1 hour of use on the day issued in half hour increments. A user may have only one visitor pass per day.
The AWE Early Childhood computer station is loaded with a variety of fun and educational software for children under the age of 7. Children may access the station for one half hour increments and may have additional time as long as no one else is waiting. The station does not provide internet access and is not attached to a printing station. Children do not need a library card for access, but must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
The Matteson Area Public Library has recently added a Makerbot 3-D Printer for use by its patrons. At this time, access to the printer is only available for use in conjunction with Youth Services Programs. For more information, contact the Youth Services Department at 748-4431 and ask for Joseph.
