Blog > Summer Reading Fun Goes Online!

Posted June 9, 2020

We are going to have lots of fun this year with our Summer Reading Program which goes from June 1 to July 31!  Check out our Facebook page for the many ways for kids to have fun such as reading for rewards, online programs, and other library activities like doing a live Choose Your Own Adventure.

Regarding the reading portion, just click on this link to go to our Beanstack site where kids can sign up to earn virtual “badges” to brag about.  All kids have to do is earn points by logging reading minutes and completing different activity challenges.

We have a multitude of online activities that kids can take part in which begins on June 15 to July 31.  Every day we will be showing a different video on our Facebook page that kids can watch to do a variety of things, such as watching storytimes or learning how to do different art and science projects. You can find our schedule of events and programs here!

We also have several activities kids can do at the library, just all of them outside.  Come look in ALL of the library windows to find and play games like I Spy, Photo Hunt, or take part in a Choose Your Own Adventure that can be done over and over.  The Choose Your Own Adventure starts with letter A in the Youth Services window to the left of our front doors.

Regarding reading, kids will be able to get books from the library using our curbside service.  Just give the library a call at (708) 748-4431 and we will pull books for them to come pick up.  Kids can also checkout eBooks to read or audiobooks to listen to from our Digital Library. If they don’t have a library card and are a Matteson resident, they can get an eResource Library Card that they can use to access the Digital Library and other online resources like our databases, too.

Hopefully, the library will be able to open its doors soon, but until then, check back here often to see what new online video programs we have for you to enjoy.  Take care and stay well.
