Our 5th Annual 5K Costume Dash for Literacy takes place on October 5. Registration starts promptly at 8:00 am and the race starts at 9:00 am. Along with this year’s run, we have included an obstacle course, a health fair and vendors. In past races, our 5K was divided up by age ranges, (5K for adults and a 1 mile run for children), but this year anyone can do either of the races with a special price for each. Participants can walk or run in either race. You can sign up for the 5K Here: https://www.mapld.org/5kdash/ and you can pay on the website or at the race.

5K participants will receive a tote bag of goodies, a T-shirt, and a wrist band from the registration table. The wrist band will collect stamps which will be used to earn prizes. Some ways to earn stamps for prizes are: pre-race workshop worksheet (located at the library and must be brought to the 5K), obstacle course, 5K participation, a special spot on the race track and more. There will also be first place prizes for runners and walkers.

We have partnered with several local businesses in our area over these 5 years and we want to say thank you to all of them. This year our sponsors are Body By Zari, Focused Nutrition, Alphagraphics, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Xsport Fitness, Meijer, Fuddrucker’s, and Medieval Times. In previous years we have sponsored with Target, Perros Brothers, Mitsubishi, Giordano’s and more. Our sponsors have donated prizes and gift cards to the 5K. These donations will be used to obtain prizes and free refreshments for participants and volunteers. Last year we also partnered with the Matteson Community Center, who helped with obtaining sponsors, marketing and recruiting participants for the 5K. This helped us build a better relationship with the Village of Matteson that we hope will continue to grow.
