Blog > Why come to a book discussion club?
Posted October 30, 2019
Did you know that the Matteson Area Public Library has two different adult book discussion clubs? We have one that meets the 4th Monday morning of the month and another that meets the 3rd Monday night of the month. The groups are independent of each other, and so the reading selections are different. But why join a book discussion club? C.S. Lewis once said, “We read to know that we are not alone.” Book discussions clubs can give you a sense of community and social connection. You go to meet interesting people. You go to read things that you may not normally read. You go for food and for good conversation. The final reason – they’re fun!
You can choose to join us a couple times a month for a good time, look around your neighborhood, or your friend circle for a group. Are you really busy and just cannot commit to a set club schedule? How about an online option? There are plenty of online resources where you can participate when you have the time. Why not take a look at GoodReads, Read with Jenna with the Today Show, Girls Night In, Book Sparks, Online Book Clubs, or Reese Weatherspoon’s online club? These are just a few of the choices, but we hope to see you at the library for a good read! Here is our list of book clubs here! Scroll down for links to online book clubs.
