Geocaching tests a person’s skills of treasure hunting, clue solving  and hiking using technology. Participants look for a hidden cache, using global positioning system (GPS) coordinates, then they rely on clues to guide them the rest of the way.

Millions of players solve the locations of these caches and share their experiences with others. Today, there are more than 3 million geocaches in over 190 countries.

For about a decade the Matteson library has participated in the multiple library geocache event.

Visit participating libraries using clues and coordinates to find the virtual hidden geocaches. The caches include a QR code you can scan with your phone, and you will fill out a form and enter into a raffle to win a $25 gift card.

* Matteson cardholders who participate have a chance to win an additional  geocaching gift basket which consists of a Yeti bottle, a compass,  and a solar lantern.
