Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa OH MY! Tis the Season…. of “getting” is what sometimes the holidays tend to be about with all of the commercials and ads of the newest items on the market. People often refer to the holiday season “as the most wonderful time of the year”, it is a time of year that isn’t that for many. If you are fortunate give thanks for all that you may be grateful for and give if you can to others that may be in need. This holiday season, like any time of the year, is a wonderful time to think of others that could benefit from a gift to put a smile on someone’s face, a friendly greeting to warm someone’s heart or a hearty meal to warm the soul. Giving can be done in an array of ways such as volunteering time at a soup kitchen, hospital, or a nursing home; paying it forward, if the chance arises, while you are checking out at a grocery store or restaurant, or even as simply as a warm smile, greeting, or helping hand to anyone you can.
Giving Season kicked off November 26, 2019 #GivingTuesday, and continues through December 31st. We at the Matteson Area Public Library Dist. are hosting a food drive, along with a giving tree and angel tree thru January 15, 2020. We are accepting new winter hats, socks, scarves, mittens, and gloves for men, women and children, non-perishable food items. Additionally, we have an angel tree where outstanding children’s’ fines can be paid. Also, with the Matteson Rotary we are hosted a toy drive and accepted new unwrapped toys that were taking to local areas. Items collected will be donated to the South Suburban PADS and Rich Township clothing banks, the Rich Township Food Pantry, and the pediatric ward of Franciscan Health of Olympia Fields, IL. When you donate to either one of those drives, you will be able to fill out a drawing ticket for free tickets to The Black Ensemble Theater’s production of The Other Cinderella. The show will take place on January 18th and the winners will be called on January 10. Call the Adult Services Desk at 708-748-4431 for more information.
We at Matteson Area Public Library District take pride in being of service to our community as well as surrounding communities, and during this time we want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. Reminding that giving is a wonderful source of getting fulfilled (if you like feeling warm and fuzzy inside) as well as helping the society we are all members of.
