Construction Update

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, we proudly hosted our official ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil our beautifully bright new lobby and celebrate the completion of Phase One of our renovation project.

The excitement throughout the day was truly contagious as friends, neighbors, local leaders, and community members gathered to celebrate this important milestone and the beginning of an exciting new future for the library and the community we serve.

We are especially grateful to our dedicated Board members for their leadership and support: Board President Howard Hunigan, Vice President Temitope Babayode, Treasurer Beverly Coleman, along with Jonathan Currin, Angela Williams-Brummel, and Casandra Holliday. Their commitment helped make this moment possible.

We were also honored to welcome the Mayor of Matteson, Sheila Y. Chalmers-Currin, and the Village President of Richton Park, Rick Reinbold, along with many other officials and supporters from across the community.

And of course, no celebration would be complete without delicious treats! A heartfelt thank you to Kute Cookies & Co. and Toya Che’rise Sweets for providing sweet refreshments that kept everyone smiling throughout the event.

If you haven’t seen the transformation yet, we invite you to stop by and experience the new lobby for yourself. This is only the beginning, so stay tuned for more exciting renovations and updates ahead!

Now the drywall goes up.  Who knew you could bend drywall into a curve? Not me. Soon we will be able to recognize an office here and there! We are moving right along!

Excuse our Dust

We’re thrilled to announce that MAPLD will undergo a major renovation starting soon!

This project will bring much-needed upgrades to our spaces, including improved accessibility, expanded seating areas, and modernized technology. While some sections of the library will be temporarily closed or relocated, our commitment to serving you remains strong.

How will this impact services?

During the renovation project, access to the front area of the library will be closed.

  • Parking will be limited. Off-street parking is an option.
  • Patrons will need to enter the building via the ramp on the northwest corner of the building, outside of the Youth Services Department .
  • Services such as passports or notary will be by appointment only.
  • Meeting Room Rentals and Programs will be limited.
  • Library items may be retrieved using our e-lockers.
  • Only 1 study room will be available.
