We would like to welcome Cassidy Steinke to the Adult Services Department as the new Public Services Manager. Here is a quick interview to learn a bit about her!

Cassidy’s Introduction: Hi! I’m Cassidy and I’m so excited to be working here! I’m a lifelong lover of libraries and will forever be grateful for my mother who brought me to our public library once a week growing up. I have 3 kids and 5 pets, so my life is always a little chaotic-and wonderful!

Library: What made you decide that you wanted to work at the Matteson Area Public Library?
Cassidy: I was drawn to the Matteson Area Public Library because it’s so evident how much the Library values it’s community by the amazing services and events MAPLD offers. I’m so excited to learn from my colleagues and patrons and hope that through my work that I can serve this community and bring help, books, and fun to its citizens.

Library: What are you passionate about doing at the library?
Cassidy: I’m excited to serve the adults in this community. This has been a hard couple of years for a lot of people so I’m hoping to bring events that bring fun into people’s lives. The Matteson Area Public Library District already does so much good in this community and I’m honored to be a part of that.

Library: What is your favorite movie?
Cassidy: It’s too hard to pick one! My top three would be The Princess Bride, Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back and the first Avengers movie.

Library: How long have you worked in libraries?
Cassidy: Professionally, I have worked in libraries for over 7 years. I have been volunteering in libraries since I was 12.

Library: What is your favorite aspect of pop culture?
Cassidy: I love all things geeky, but I do have a special place in my heart for Star Wars. Both of my older brothers are Star Wars fans and they passed it down to me. All five of my pets have Star Wars names (Mara Jade, Leia, Kylo, Jynn and Saber if you’re curious). I love the storytelling, the good vs evil storylines and more often than not-the redemption plot. There’s something hopeful about knowing someone can always come back to light.

Library: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Cassidy: Reading-of course! I also enjoy knitting. However, you’ll probably find me dancing in my kitchen with my kids on my average night/day off.

Library: Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
Cassidy: It may be a little dorky-but the Hoopla Digital app. If you haven’t used this app yet, you should! It’s FREE with your Matteson Area Library District card. I’m constantly either listening to an audiobook book from this app or listening to a soundtrack (They have the Encanto soundtrack!). On a more personal level it probably would be chips and HOT salsa.

Library: What kind of programs will you be bringing to the library?
Cassidy: I’m starting a thriller/mystery book club in March! We will be reading all sorts of suspenseful titles! I will also be hosting a virtual trivia night every month, beginning in March. Our first trivia night will be about one of my favorite TV shows-Gilmore Girls! I’m also hosting a Bridgerton High tea in April.

Dropping by the library? Come say hi to Cassidy at the Adult Services Desk! You will be seeing her around a lot, since she will be working on desk, ordering books and hosting events.
