Blog > Color Your Summer With Our Summer Reading Program

Posted July 11, 2021

After a wild year, we at the library are excited to return to an annual tradition: The Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme is Reading Colors Your World, and if you look around you it certainly does.

The Youth Services Program consists of various elements. First, there will be events for kids and teens (both virtual and outdoors) held throughout June and July. The other element is the reading. Kids and teens can read any types of material they want, though we of course encourage you to use Matteson Library’s books.

When you read and participate in simple fun activities as listed on our Beanstack summer reading tracker, you earn either small prizes or raffle tickets for larger prizes. (Prizes are divided by age groups.) There is also a special program – the Rubber Ducky Club just for our preschool kids. If you need suggestions about what would be good choices for your kids, why not check out our Good Books for Kids and Teens website (https://bit.ly/mapld-booklists)

If you have any questions feel free to check out our Youth Summer Reading website: https://bit.ly/YS-MAPLD-Summer. (Remember that this web address is case sensitive.)  This website will take you to Beanstack and all the other resources you need to participate in our youth summer reading program.

The library also offers a Summer Reading Program for adults, and it also has a number of virtual and  in-person programs, too. Book Club makes another appearance on June 22 at 6:00 pm in the library’s courtyard, and the book selection is The Mothers by Brit Bennett. Call to ask for your own personal copy at 708-78-4431. Grab our summer activity BINGO sheet, do quizzes, play games or make crafts to participate and get entered for some really fun prizes. Need some reading recommendations then look at our Good Reads page at:

You can find a list of all the Adult activities on the library’s website at https://bit.ly/AdultSRP-MAPLD or you can find both reading programs on the library’s website at www.mapld.org and look for the link Events and Classes. This year’s programs will run from June 4, 2021 and ending August 1, 2021. Please feel free to contact either department at 708-748-4431!
